You might not think about the solids and chemicals that get into the sewer streams. Wastewater is carried from our homes to a sewage treatment plant where the water is treated. It is evaluated and then deemed safe. IT is treated to make it safe for us to use. The pre-treatment process happens when the water is sent through chambers where big pieces of metal can be drawn out. Smaller solids like pebbles and sand is then filtered out. The sludge and scum is removed with a scraper for a few days. The secondary treatment process removes biological waste. The water is put into a chamber where the air is blown. The mixture flows from the aerator to a chamber. It then goes into a digester, where it is decomposed and prepared further.
